The focal points of traditional job-search have always been 1) develop a resume, and 2) get out there and start networking. But what if networking the way it's currently practiced has lost its effectiveness? What if people don't do well because they're not comfortable with some of the activities it requires of them? What if making meaningful and productive connections takes a different set of skills than the traditional ones associated with sales? What if technology is making electronic contact ubiquitous at the cost of making real contact harder and more valuable?
In this interactive session, Beverly Ryle, author of Ground of Your Own Choosing: Winning Strategies for Finding & Creating Work (www.GroundOfYourOwnChoosing.com) will:
- Take a historical and contextual look at the practice of networking
- Survey how students and clients respond to the necessity of doing it
- Present an alternative approach to overcome client resistance
- Show how an enhanced model is the basis of long-term professional security
By reframing the practice of expanding a professional circle as community-building and by offering specific techniques for building a professional support system, this training will help you and your clients manage the new realities of the work world with more confidence and ease.
