Events:

We offer a variety of programs to enhance your professional development and networking opportunities.
  1. Professional Development Seminars (PDS) – This core element of the CCC provides high-value intensive training to career development professionals at very reasonable prices. Offered 5-6 times per year on relevant and cutting edge topics in the career development field.
  2. Best Practices Roundtables - 60 or 90 min lunchtime (12:00pm EST) discussions facilitated by a leader who is interested in and knowledgeable on the topic.  Roundtable events are designed for interaction among members and will be discussion based.
  3. Networking – Connecting with CCC members has helped new and seasoned professionals gain “best practices,” learn about job openings, seek new resources, and make new professional friends.
  4. Book/Video/Documentary Discussion(s) - An advantage of being a CCC member is participating in book group discussions on books selected by our Board of Directors. Each book will be from leading authors on career counseling ideas and theories.
  5. Community Event - Community events are additional event opportunities marketed and/or hosted through partnerships developed by the CCC. They include, and are not limited to, peer professional association events and conferences, related initiatives, and member led trainings that the CCC board feel are relevant to the mission and benefit our member community.

    More about our Recruiters

Carol Maloney-Scott, Senior Technical Recruiter at Lockheed Martin

Carol has twenty-five years of experience in corporate talent acquisition recruiting, training, and coaching, holds a master’s degree in Career Development from John F. Kennedy University.

She lives in the cool and historic town of Richmond, VA with her husband and their little wiener dogs, Benny and Moose. In her spare time, she misses her son and stepdaughter, but has (mostly) adjusted to the empty nest.

She loves both writing and reading fiction, live music, travel, karaoke, foreign languages, and laughing as much as possible.

Eden Sittsamer, Technical Recruiter at Duolingo

I'm a recruiter at Duolingo, where I've been helping to grow the company's engineering org for the past three and a half years. I love contributing to Duolingo's mission to make language learning accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Before Duolingo, I was a workforce development specialist at a large healthcare organization, supporting individuals facing barriers to employment. That role deepened my enthusiasm for helping people navigate the job search and grow in their careers.

I'm proud to call Pittsburgh home and love to sing its praises. I especially enjoy working with candidates who will be relocating to Pittsburgh for their new role. (I was a newbie here once, too!) Outside of work, you can find me at the gym or practicing my French skills on Duolingo. Sometimes doing both at once!

Jonathan Hislop, Senior Recruiting Lead at Axon

Jonathan Hislop is an experienced recruiting professional with a strong background in talent acquisition and career consulting. Currently serving as Senior Recruiting Lead at Axon, Jonathan leads talent acquisition efforts in accounting, focusing on attracting top talent for the organization.

In addition to his role at Axon, he is the founder of JRH Career Consulting, where he provides coaching services in resume writing, interview preparation, LinkedIn profile updates, and overall career advice.

Katie Buchta, Senior Recruiter at The Hollister Group

Katie Buchta is a Senior Recruiter based in Boston, MA and has been with The Hollister Group for 15+ years. In her time at Hollister, she’s worked on a variety of teams and has experience recruiting for all kinds of roles, including Admin/HR, Technology, and currently in the Accounting and Finance space.

The common thread of her career has always been people! Katie is innately curious and loves working with people, hearing their stories, advising/coaching them in the careers and helping connect them to roles that are a good match.

Outside of work Katie is an avid traveler both internationally (she’s been lucky to travel to 40+ countries so far) and more locally (ask me about my next trip!). She’s a former competitive swimmer, loves yoga, hiking, and anything outdoors.  She can be found attending all sorts of live music and loves trying new restaurants and bars in the Boston/Cambridge area.

Her best piece of advice to job seekers: always send a thank you note. It’s a little thing that can go a long way and sometimes can set you apart from the competition.

Kerry Ciejek, Director and Head of Talent Acquisition at Vor Bio

Kerry Ciejek is the Director and Head of Talent Acquisition at Vor Bio, a pioneering cell and gene engineering company. With over 20 years of expertise in recruiting and talent acquisition within the life sciences sector, Kerry's career began as an agency recruiter, where she successfully sourced talent for numerous life science companies. She then transitioned to in-house recruiting, specializing in physician recruitment for a major healthcare system.

Before joining Vor Bio, Kerry served as the Director and Head of Talent Acquisition at Translate Bio, where she spearheaded a significant hiring expansion leading up to the company's acquisition by Sanofi. Kerry holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology and is a certified coach from the Coaches Training Institute (CTI).

Outside of work, Kerry cherishes time with her family and can often be found on the sidelines of sporting events, enthusiastically cheering on her two sons.

David is an accomplished talent leader with 15 years of experience. He is renowned for driving strategic talent acquisition for industry giants like Google, Amazon, Wayfair, and HubSpot. His expertise in recruiting technical leaders, executives, and high-impact talent in dynamic environments has earned him widespread recognition.

David Fernandez, Principal Technical Recruiter, Atelio by FIS

With a diverse background in providing exceptional experiences to clients, candidates, and teams, David excels at optimizing processes to ensure success in challenging, high-stakes searches. His leadership skills shine in fostering collaboration, driving continuous growth, and aligning recruitment strategies with business objectives to achieve ambitious hiring goals.

David holds an MBA and certifications in Advanced and Certified Internet Recruiting. He is eager to leverage his extensive expertise to help organizations reach their talent acquisition goals and thrive in today's competitive landscape.

    Professional Development Seminar:

Navigating 'Othering': Empowering Clients and Practitioners to Thrive

    Presenter: Andrea Horton-Mericli

Hosts: Laurie Stickels and Anastasia Lopez

Location: Virtual (a Zoom link will be sent a few days before the event)

    Date: Friday, June 6, 2025

    Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM ET

In this 2-hour interactive online seminar, Andrea Horton-Meriçli, founder of Diversifuse, will guide participants through the complex topic of ‘othering’—the act of marginalizing individuals or groups by treating them as outsiders. This workshop will explore how othering affects both clients and career practitioners, examining the personal, professional, and systemic impacts it can have. We will discuss short- and long-term consequences, identify ways practitioners can prepare clients to face othering in their job searches and workplaces, and reflect on how career professionals can protect themselves when being othered. The session will also offer practical strategies for responding to othering, whether you are the one being othered or a bystander witnessing it.

Attendees will leave equipped with tools and strategies to build more inclusive, supportive environments—not only for their clients but also within their own professional networks and workspaces. Through interactive activities, role-play exercises, and group discussions, participants will gain actionable insights to better serve marginalized communities and promote belonging in career services. This workshop emphasizes allyship, self-advocacy, and bystander intervention techniques, empowering participants to make meaningful changes that foster inclusion, both for themselves and the individuals they serve.

Thanks ChatGPT - Am I Obsolete?

Presenters: Kimberly Lurie and Nora Salmon

    Host: Adesuwa Igbineweka

Location: Virtual (a Zoom link will be sent to you a few days before the event)

    Date: Wednesday, June 11th, 2025

    Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EST

    Program Overview

In an era where AI tools like ChatGPT can answer career questions in seconds, what does it mean for co-op advisors, career counselors, and coaches?

Far from being obsolete, your role has never been more essential!

This interactive session explores the irreplaceable value of human connection in career advising, especially in a post-COVID world, where students and clients are experiencing record levels of isolation and mental health challenges. You’ll learn how to embrace AI—not as a competitor, but as a powerful tool that enhances your ability to support students and job seekers with empathy, nuance, and personalized guidance.

    Together, we’ll:

    • Learn why your roles in either co-opertive education or career advising are critical to support individuals, in a world where mental health issues are on the rise, and students are having fewer than ever human interactions.
    • Share tools and techniques to integrate AI into coaching, co-op, and career development
    • Explore ways AI can reduce bias and increase equity in hiring
    • Encourage colleagues to embrace AI and use it to enhance current co-operative education, internship search, hiring practices, and to share AI best practices.
